Welcome to the heart of the Western BCA Pool Players Association (Western BCA). Unlike many sports organizations that are run entirely top-down by distant corporate boards, Western BCA is fundamentally a player-driven, non-profit community that thrives on the vital support and dedication of our League Operators and their players. Every tournament we host, every policy we update, and every milestone we hit is fueled by the passion of our members and the tireless work of the operators who run our local leagues.
Whether you are competing in a local Tuesday night league or stepping up to the tables at the Regional Championships at Chinook Winds, you aren’t just a number on a spreadsheet, you are a builder of this association.
How Western BCA Players Drive the Association
Western BCA was formed in 1995 with a simple mission: to promote the sport of billiards in the Pacific Northwest and give players access to premier, well-run competitive regional tournaments. We accomplish this through a unique grassroots governance structure that puts power directly into the hands of our members:
- The Foundation of League Operators: Our League Operators (LOs) are the backbone of Western BCA. They handle the essential day-to-day logistics, managing local divisions, processing paperwork, enforcing fair play, and sanctioning players so they are eligible for regional and national events. By maintaining strong, active local leagues and serving as a direct line of communication to the Western BCA administration, LOs create the stable foundation that allows our entire tournament network to thrive.
- Player Representatives: Your voice starts locally. Every sanctioned Western BCA league is entitled to have one Player Representative for every 30 players in that league. Player Reps attend our quarterly meetings, serve on crucial committees, vote on official motions, and even run for executive office. They bridge the gap between local league rooms and regional administration.
- Members-at-Large: To ensure the general player community is always represented, our membership elects up to five Members-at-Large to one-year terms. These individuals advocate directly for the everyday tournament competitor.
- A Culture of Volunteerism: From our tournament registrar and tournament director staff to our administrative committees, Western BCA operates on volunteer power. Players routinely step up to help run our regional events, manage the podium, and ensure a fair, high-quality tournament environment for everyone.
- Open Meetings & Democracy: Our quarterly and annual membership meetings aren’t closed-door sessions. Any sanctioned league player is welcome to attend, participate in discussions, ask questions, and even submit agenda items for review using our Agenda Submission Guide.
Modern Fair Play: Powered by FargoRate
In the past, Western BCA players were placed into competitive divisions based on localized, subjective data gathered from League Operators, division managers, and historic tournament stats. While this served us for years, it left room for human error and inequality.
Today, Western BCA has stepped into the future of cue sports. We utilize FargoRate, the global, objective, and mathematically precise rating system, to handle player classification.
Why This Matters to You:
- Absolute Fairness: FargoRate evaluates your skill based on your actual performance against the performance of your opponents, completely removing bias and guesswork.
- Real-Time Data: Because your rating updates dynamically as league and tournament data from around the world flows in, your skill level is always accurate.
- Dynamic Divisions: Because ratings can literally change daily, Western BCA no longer publishes fixed, static division lists. Instead, tournament divisions utilize FargoRate “caps” (such as combined team limits or sliding singles ranges), allowing for incredibly tight, hyper-competitive brackets where anyone has a fair shot at the prize money.
Check Your Rating:
Because these numbers shift based on your most recent matches, the only way to know your exact current rating is to check the official system.
